It’s not always about what you do while you’re present but about how you leave. DeWanna Bonner didn’t pack her bags and bounce from the Indiana Fever.
She vanished. No goodbye. No message. Not even a “thanks y’all.” Just nine games and gone. And now, Sophie Cunningham is calling her out, like she called out the s*x toy thrower at WNBA games. Sophie held nothing back.
It’s the kind of silence that echoes within the whole. But Cunningham chose to speak up.

Sophie Cunningham didn’t make any drama around it. She just mentioned the facts. Speaking on the Show Me Something podcast, she revealed that Bonner didn’t even drop a quick goodbye in the team’s group chat. “Nothing,” Cunningham said. “Not even a text.”
Bonner joined the Fever in the offseason, which raised a few questions. But teaming up with Caitlin Clark and Stephanie White looked like a smart play. Championship hopes. Bright lights. Good vibes.
But after just nine games, Bonner dipped. She took a sudden leave of absence, offered zero explanation, and never returned. The Fever removed her from the roster. Then she cleared waivers and signed with the Phoenix Mercury, her old team and the current home of her fiancé.
Fans in Indy didn’t forget. They booed Bonner hard when she returned last week. That didn’t sit well with Mercury star Kahleah Copper, who ripped the crowd for the noise.
Cunningham, though, she gets it. “Booing is normal,” she implied. It’s part of the game. Natisha Hiedeman and Courtney Williams even joked about it. “If you left Minnesota tomorrow, they would boo the s— out of you,” Hiedeman told Williams.

Bonner still hasn’t explained her exit. But she didn’t agree with all these and posted them on Instagram. “IN DUE TIME,” she wrote, saying the apologies should be just as loud as the disrespect.
But Cunningham was straightforward with the matter. She kept it calm and said there were no past issues between them. Still, she didn’t hide her surprise. Bonner ghosted everyone.
This isn’t some scandal. It’s not a takedown. It’s just the truth. And sometimes, the truth stings louder than boos from a home crowd you left behind.
